Brain, brain, what is brain? [Sep. 14th, 2008|09:32 am]
I think it's a sign that's it's Renaissance Festival season when you see a job announcement for a "Midlevel Java Programmer" and read it as "Medieval Java Programmer". Okay, so we know where MY brain is...

So... [Jul. 22nd, 2008|03:59 am]
Where are all the Batman/Lost crossovers? Come on, people, you can't have missed the fact that Richard of the Others (and his guyliner) is Mayor of Gotham! Is Gotham the Island? (It is AN island, we know...) Anyone? No? Not even if he also played Batmanuel in The Tick?

Snupin Santa [Jan. 5th, 2008|05:57 pm]
Well now that the masterlist is up, I can reveal that yes, indeed, I did write "Not Quite What the Doctor Ordered" for [info]cordeliadelayne. I must say, I was very surprised at how many people guessed it was me! [info]snegurochka_lee nailed me almost immediately, as did [info]ellid. I guess my style is more recognizable than I thought! :D

Anyway, for those who haven't read and want to:

TItle: Not Quite What the Doctor Ordered
Pairing: Severus/Remus
Rating: R
Length: 33216
Summary: Severus Snape is a brilliant diagnostician, but Remus Lupin is a difficult case, in more ways than one
Notes: Now I can thank [info]scribbulus_ink out loud - OMG, if it hadn't been for McKay holding my hand and patting my head, I might not have finished the fic. I LOVE the premise, but with RL issues and work stress, added to the fact that I canNOT write a short story any more, it was definitely a challenge! Thanks, McKay - as always you are my strength!!!

I loved the thought of writing "Snape as House" per Cordelia's prompt. The most difficult part was researching the "disease" and trying to come up with something plausible. I'm a bit anal that way, because of too many years of screaming about Star Trek technobabble saving the day. I will NOT claim that my research is bullet proof, but McKay can attest to the many hours of research I did in trying to find a disease to fit the "symptoms"! :D

Another thing I ended up enjoying very much in the story was the Regulus/Kingsley bits. I never thought of it before, really, but it just WORKED. And my Regulus is 100% based on McKay's boy from [info]snark_n_bark. He is the ultimate Regulus to me, and so another kudo to McKay for inspiration!!!!

And a final word on that - McKay has done such an amazing, fantastic, incredible job on Snusa since the beginning, I think we all owe her an immense debt of gratitude for the hard work and frustration involved in running such an enormous fest. To me, McKay IS Snupin, and has been for years. Not just her writing, but the spirit she brings to things as well. Thanks, McKay! There is no one else like you in the world, and I treasure you dearly! :D

#SPLAT# [Dec. 2nd, 2007|06:49 pm]
So, I'm horrible. I owe so many replies and I've not gotten to read ANY fics (*eyes [info]snapelike's fic hungrily*). The good news is that [info]scribbulus_ink and I finished a holiday collaboration which will go up in a few days. I'm rather squeeful about this one, I particularly like how it turned out. Can't say much about my Snusa because... well, it's Snusa, and secret, but I did get it done and I'm fairly happy with the result, even if a few parts of it had me ripping my hair out and crying on McKay's shoulder.

Work continues to be just absolutely insane. It gets better, and then when I take a deep breath it gets crazy again. Par for the course, I suppose. The good thing is that I'm taking almost two weeks off at the end of the year; the bad news is that I have a HUGE pile of work to finish before I can take off. My Christmas tree isn't up yet because I got horribly sick last week on the night we'd planned to set it up. Hopefully we'll get to it tomorrow afternoon, though, since this weekend has been busy.

Most of my Christmas shopping is done, thank goodness. I'm an unnatural female, I suppose, because I hate to shop. I love giving people presents, but I am definitely an online gifter - the mall makes me want to cry because of the noise and crowds. I had a Pampered Chef party with some friends and got all new pots and pans for my holiday cooking. Woo! For those who don't know, I cook a LOT, and I bake a lot, too. So new cookware is happy. :D

Best news of all: I've lost 20 lbs. My blood pressure was diagnosed as borderline about 3 months ago, and my doctor wanted to try treating with weight loss and exercise before putting me on meds, and I think I've done pretty well. I am a stress eater, and since work has been hell my weight has gone through the roof. I'd love to take off another 30, but I'll settle for 10 to 12 more, which will put me back in all my best clothes. I just hope that it takes the blood pressure down, too - strokes are THE killer of women in my family, and I'd rather stick around for a bit, to hassle McKay and Lore and Ellid and Karasu. ;) And the rest of you, too!

I hope everyone is doing well. My reading of LJ or IJ or anything else has been sporadic because most of my time has been used for writing, but I'll try to catch up. :D #HUGS# to all!

New Friendings [Aug. 22nd, 2007|04:59 am]
Hey there!

Anyone who has friended me that I haven't yet friended back, it's because I'm not certain who you are. If you are on my LJ flist, please comment here with who you are there and I'll add you back at once! :D If you aren't, please feel free to introduce yourself. With all the weirdness going on I'm just a wee bit paranoid and I'd like to get to know you first. :)

I'm going to be transitioning to this as my primary journal instead of LJ in the very near future.

irony [Aug. 17th, 2007|07:38 pm]
So I see that certain people who screamed about how offensive "insanejournal" is to the mentally ill now have accounts over here in order to sign up for certain exchanges located on the site. I suppose that being offended on behalf of others only goes so far - when it interferes with participating in selfish things, damn the masses, huh?

Moral superiority only works if you see it through, people. Lip service is a piss poor tribute to a "cause" you profess to believe in.

THANK YOU!!!! [Jul. 12th, 2007|11:44 pm]
I owe a million comments and replies, but since my net access for the last week has been very close to zero (out of town, you know) I haven't been able to get to them. But let me say that I love my flist, and in particular [info]scribbulus_ink, [info]drusillas_rain, [info]karasu_hime, and [info]bronze_ribbons. Thank you all SO much for the birthday presents!!!! I will definitely be commenting more about them, but I have a 5 hour drive tomorrow and might not be back on until Saturday night. But thank you for making my birthday so wonderful, and thanks to everyone who sent me good wishes that I haven't seen yet!!! *HUGS*

The zombies have been kept away by our awful weather - although I have noticed the puppy carrying around a new bone that I don't recall giving her. Maybe we were just lucky.

Yo ho! No, not an epithet, we're seeing Pirates again. :) The bad thing about today is that Her Nibs sprained a leg jumping off my footstool. Poor silly baby, I tried telling her she's not a cat, but she doesn't believe me!

Hope everyone is having a good weekend!

I think we named her wrong [May. 1st, 2007|04:55 am]
Is it too late to rename the puppy? Nibbler still fits, but I think that it's an understatement. What about something like Gozer the Destructor?

I never knew that five pounds of cute, fuzzy puppy could be a force of nature. It's not that she doesn't follow rules, either - it's just that her rules and our rules have little do to with each other. It's like having a land piranha in the house.

The Roolz According to Her Nibs

1. Anything on the floor is a puppy toy

2. Any surface that I can reach by standing, jumping, climbing, clawing or fooling someone into lifting me to is part of the floor. Items attached to or constituting another being are also considered to be on the floor.

3. All puppy toys much be chewed with vigor until disintegrating to their component atoms between my teeth. Blood tastes good. Yum. So does paper. In fact, so does anything that The People don't want me to taste, and therefore I must bite everything in the house.

4. The People yelling at me is very amusing, so I make them do it a lot.

5. The words "No" and "Stop" and "Dammit, what are you into NOW?" are obviously praise and encouragement for my feats of rampant destruction.

6. Cocking my head to the side and giving them puppy eyes will always make The People go "Awwww..." and forget why they were mad at me.

7. There is a secret way to Puppy Heaven that can be reached through the sofa, and if I dig long and hard enough at the cushion I will find it.

8. Licking someone's hand a few times will put them off guard so that I can bite it.

I'm sure there are more rules, but these are the ones my other dog has very politely told me about. Unless Kieli was making it all up to get a treat.

Gotta go. Dammit, Nibs, what are you into NOW?

Pet related trauma [Apr. 7th, 2007|06:12 pm]
Today Her Nibs scared me to death.

We took her to the vet for vaccinations, which of course she wasn't at all pleased about. She fought it, and for the bordatella they had to muzzle her (it's nose drops, btw). Then, after they took the muzzle off and I cuddled her, she went completely limp. Her eyes were open, but she didn't seem to be responsive at all, and while she looked conscious, it was like she couldn't move.

I was scared to death, and the nurse quickly took her from me, and the doctor looked at her gums, which were completely grey. They rushed her out of the room saying she'd had an allergic reaction to one of the shots, and I was left to wait there while they gave her an injection of benadryl. I was in tears at this point, because I adore my fiesty little weinerdog, and I was scared to death she was going to die. Allergic reactions are nothing to mess around with, I know. All I could think was that here I thought I was doing what you're supposed to do as a responsible pet owner and make sure she got all her shots, and it might end up killing her. :(

Mercifully, she's all right now. They kept an eye on her for a while after the shot, then sent her home with me. We have the number for the emergency vet's, and we have to give her more benadryl before bed and then again in the morning. There is also a standing order at the vet's that she is to be given benadryl before any future shots, just in case.

So I've had my trauma for the day. :P Of course now the question is will I sleep tonight for worrying about the poor little baby. :(
